Commercial art is good but painting
is better! I find portraiture in particular the most intriguing of
all subject matter - ourselves and others. People are the most interesting
things we see, the face being the area that expresses to us something
about the person and the life that they lead. Every portrait is as
unique as the person that is being painted. I attempt to capture the
real essence of each individual through an expressive, painterly approach
to the portrait, using both brushes and palette knives in order to
really push the paint around. In addition, I like to give each piece
a contemporary feel, a reflection of the sitter in the world of today
through fresh colour palette and quirky composition.
I like to get to know the person I
am painting through either live sittings or from photos, or by using
a combination of the two. I also like to make the whole process as
simple and enjoyable as possible, so don't worry, I will aim to put
you at your ease! Sittings can be arranged in two hourly sessions in
the comfort of your home, where I will make preliminary sketches for
the finished painting. I work in oils on canvases which can range in
size from 8" x 8" to over six foot in height or width.
